looking at the state of mind without the context of what has caused her to feel that way.
Representing the state of mind that she is in and that the shots of her being happy are just her imagination
melancholy
the audience do not see what has made her melancholy and sad thus leading them to wonder what the reasons behind this was
the reason we chose a woman is because people will more more inclined to wonder the triviality or severity of her problem. If we used a man people would use dominant ideology to be more inclined to feel as though his problems were justifiable because of this idea that "boys don't cry" Men are supposed "Stoic". the reason we chose a woman was only because of the wider amount of interpretations that one could draw from it.
so for example, someone could interpret her to have relationship problems, this would be them stereotyping the woman as over complicating and being over emotional about relationships, that would be stereotyping on the viewer's part. to reinforce this the audience could see that the person behind the camera is said boyfriend.
challenging dominant ideology because the woman is being represented as independent, however it could be said that this video is enforcing dominant ideology because she is being portrayed as said and longing for a relationship.
The order of the shots is non-linear so the shots of her being happy and the shots of her being sad are also non-linear, this means that it is up to the audience to decide whether she is happy then sad, or sad then happy. So that also is down to the viewer's own interpretations, so is it like she has relationship problems because she doesn't have a boyfriend, if you're looking at it through the context of relationship problems, if they are looking at it in this view then it is the man's prejudice.
for this kind of music she is shown as sensitive and kind which is dominant ideology for this kind of genre.
